What do the different Government Departments do?

Office of Social and Human Development Secretaría de Desarrollo Social y Humano We are in charge of promoting and give impetus to the development of the people of Guanajuato, putting basic services such as education, health and housing within reach of every person in the state.	State Council on Population Consejo Estatal de Población We help to organize things better within the state. The Council’s focus is the population of Guanajuato and, as the name implies, to offer advice on how best to enjoy other spaces in which to grow along with our families.
State Ecological Institute Instituto de Ecología We carry out research and studies of the environment in our state in order to help care for and improve it.	Office for Agricultural Development Secretaría de Desarrollo Agropecuario This office provides better systems that help our farming population make the best use of the countryside and achieve better crops. It gives support and advice to ranchers and farmers on improving production methods in a variety of areas: cattle, fishing, poultry, agriculture, etc.
State Commission for Sport and Attention to Youth Consejo Estatal de Deporte y Atención de la Juventud We encourage greater numbers of people to take up sports and go about them in a better way, with the aim of creating better sportspeople. The Commission offers special attention to outstanding sportspeople, as befits their achievements and personal requirements (such as sports medicine) in order to improve services. We also seek the creation of more sporting areas and better conditions for people with physical disabilities or that require special facilities or equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches, etc.	General Coordination of Public Relations Coordinación General de Comunicación Social Charged with communicating results, proposals and activities of the Government (Governors and Secretaries) to the public. Our interest is keeping you informed in the clearest posible way. To this end we use all available media – including of course the internet!
Housing Institute Instituto de Vivienda The Housing Institute offers new houses and empty lots for construction, or can help with the continuing construction or improvement of your house. . The Institute has many options to choose from to help you make the choice that suits you most, according to your needs and income.	Department of Finance and Administration Secretaría de Finanzas y Administración We administrate the money used by the Government in order to make the best use of it and to give priority where it is most needed, for example in education, health care, roads, etc. We also work in planning in order to be able to offer the best to our society.
State Water Commission Comisión Estatal de Agua Water is one our most precious natural resources. CEASG is in charge of putting into action plans that will make sure we use this resource in the best possible way. We are looking to make water available in every corner of our state, to find new sources of this vital substance and also to educate the population as to its importance.	Guanajuato State Tourist Office Coordinadora de Turismo We have a beautiful state with many historic sites. Cotur’s task is to promote it to the widest extent possible in order to attract ever-greater numbers of tourists, not only from Mexico but from all over the world. We orient our visitors, recommending them places of interest and by virtue of this we support the people of Guanajuato involved in the tourist industry.
Institute for Culture Instituto de Cultura We facilitate the relationship between artists and creators and Society as a whole. To this end, we are involved in numerous communities all over the State in order to answer questions and pick up new creative ideas that will bring us closer to Society.	Department of Health Secretaría de Salud We take care that the health of the people of Guanajuato is in a continuous state of improvement. We prevent illnesses and analyze our environment in order to make it conducive to our development. The Department of Health works to bring medical services to all the towns and rural communities of Guanajuato.
Office of Coordination for the Promotion of Foreign Trade Coordinación de Fomento al Comercio Exterior COFOCE is entrusted with the helping bring about economic development in Guanajuato by promoting and inviting businesspeople in the state to sell their products abroad. COFOCE supports Guanajuato-based companies in their search for a market overseas, helping them to make a name for themselves and obtaining greater benefits from the experience.	State DIF Desarrollo Integral para la Famila DIF (Integral Development for the Family) is entrusted with making sure that all the families of Guanajuato live in an agreeable and healthy environment. It gives support to people in economic need, unprotected children and to the elderly according to their varied needs.
State Attorney’s Office for the Protection of the Environment Procuraduría de Protección al Ambiente This was created in order to attend to complaints and lawsuits brought by you, the citizen as a result of damange to our environment. For this reason, this branch of state law enforcement carries out inspections and monitoring operations and not only sanctions infractions but also seeks to increase public participation, helping the citizens to become, in their turn protectors of the environment and enforcers of the law on environmental practices.	State System for Financial Development Sistema de Financiamiento para el Desarrollo We support projects aimed at aiding the economic growth of your family, community or company. We help families with "microcredits" that allow them to set up their own businesses in their communities.
Institute for Information on Development Instituto de Información para el Desarrollo The Institute is in charge of research, study and surveys about Guanajuato. The information it collects is at the disposal of the whole population: students, businesspeople and workers. Among the information you can find are facts about our municipal populations, and their economic and social well-being, as well as geographical information and other important data.	Guanajuato Institute of Women Instituto de la Mujer Guanajuatense Entrusted with ensuring that the women have the greatest possible opportunity to develop themselves.
Office for Sustainable Economic Development Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico y Sustentable We seek to promote investment in our state, which is to say we help create businesses. The more businesses there are, the more opportunities for employment and greater wealth are created for our state and our people. Our ultimate goal is to provide Guanajuato with better opportunities for a better present and future.	Department of Public Works Secretaría de Obra Pública Plans and oversees the best use of land in our state in order to carry out works that Benedit the people of Guanajuato. We promote the creation of infrastructure and systems of communication such as roads and freeways.
State Council for Science and Technology Consejo  de Ciencia y Tecnología The Council provides support for those wishing to undertake scientific or technological research. It concentrates research projects that serve the best interests of the state in order that we may make the best possible use of all our available resources, whether human, natural or material.	State Attorney General’s Office Procuraduría General de Justicia We oversee observance of the law and that this in turn serves to protect the people of Guanajuato. We are the guardians of you and your family’s safety and security.
Department of Education Secretaría de Educación This department is responsible for making sure all the children and young people in Guanajuato have the chance to study. It watches closely to ensure the provision of adequate facilities for learning and the construction of schools wherever these may be needed and that the service provided there is of the highest quality in order to have the best possible education for our young men and women.	Office of the Governor Secretaría Particular del Gobernador This department has the task of aiding the State Governor, serving as a liason between the executive and the citizens of the state.
Office of the State Comptroller General Contraloría del Estado At the Auditor General’s office it is our task to give guidance and support in order to ensure strict observance of the regulations by those that make up the State Government. Our goal is to guarantee honest and transparent government.	Guanajuato State Institute of Labor Social Security Instituto de Seguridad Social para el Estado de Guanajuato Provides social and medical assistance to the workers of the State of Guanajuato.
Guanajuato Television Unit (UTG) Unidad de Televisión de Guanajuato Works to inform the public of important news and events in the State	Department of Government Secretaría de Gobierno Attends to and orients society in relation to its difficulties. Charged with maintaining security in all corners of the State in order to guarantee respect for rights and the correct implementation of laws. Supports all actions and decisions of the State Governor, preventing and avoiding social conflict by always seeking compromise.
Department of Public Security Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Its purpose is to provide security for the inhabitants of Guanajuato. It undertakes preventative campaigns and maintains the security the State requires against all possible contingencies.	State System of Education for Life and Work Sistema Estatal de Educación para la Vida y el Trabajo Has the objective of bringing education, training and certification to the people of Guanajuato
